CSSKF - Cheung Style Sport Kung Fu

Cheung Style Sport Kung Fu was founded by Grandmaster Anthony Arnett. It is named after his teacher, William Cheung. William Cheung is a well-known fighter and teacher of Traditional Wing Chun. He is the current Grandmaster of traditional Wing Chun. Cheung Style Sport Kung Fu allows a martial arts practitioner to USE their Wing Chun. It can be applied to many different arenas of competition in addition to self-defense.

Attacking to Defend against Kicks

Attacking the Weapons

Once the opponent's knee is raised and their leg is chambered, the kick is thrown. It is too late to block when the leg is already up. When the opponents knee raises up to chamber into a kick, attack the leg.

Kick underneath the leg, kick the thigh, kick the inside thigh of the standing leg, axe-kick the top of the leg, or use inverted kicks to attack the legs. Don't stop there. Kick the hips and thighs when you close the gap. Take away the kicker's weapons and make them less effective.

Sparring with the Bil Sao

Defense for Multiple Attacks

Taken straight from the wooden dummy application for Bil Sao techniques and developed into a sparring application.

In this example use the Bil Sao block during an exchange step to create distance between the attacks. As the attacks come in (hook punches, straight punches head level) deflect with the Bil Sao.

High attack towards upper left side of head - Use Left Bil Sao to block. Provided a second attack to the right side of head follows - exchange step (stepping back with the left leg) to a Bil Sao on the right side. Notice now that the lead arm is again being used once the exchange step has been made. In the Bil Sao technique the supporting arm is next to the blocking arm's elbow. This is very important to give the block more power if necessary and to set up the thread (also protects against the opponents free arm).

Remember the goal is to attack. On each successful block there is an opportunity to step off with the lead leg while threading with the support arm.

Exchange stepping with the Bil Sao is easy to do and sets up a step-off to the blind side with every successful block.

Knee strikes - front stance

Crosslegged Attack

Feint or attack w/ back leg front kick, but pull back to original stance (interrupt or step off here if necessary) recoil leg off ground into attacking rear knee.
I n this example the right leg throws the front kick and recoils to the straight knee targeting opponents lead leg / torso / or head.

Parallel Attack

Step up to lead leg with back leg to execute a step up front kick. Use as an attack or feint. Interrupt or step-off here if necessary. When bringing leg down from front kick step off to blind side (to the left in this scenario) with the kicking leg. this motion stepping off gives a natural momentum to throw a round knee with the rear leg (right leg) targeting the opponents torso or head.

Chamber Kicks

Beating the Weapons

1) Throw a lead backfist or straight punch to draw the opponents arm out to block
2) When the block is drawn out it will give you an opportunity to attack the arm / leg
3) Kick the block with an appropriate front leg kick (front kick or inverted round kick is effective when fighting parallel and attacking weapons, they are also effective kicks to chamber from)
4) Chamber to a second kick

Knee strikes - Ma Bo stance

Two Drills

When blocking an attack, Exchange step into a ma bo bringing lead leg behind and across rear leg.

Drill 1
Knee strike with the rear leg from the ma bo stance
Drill 2
Clutch with the rear leg from the ma bo stance to round knee strike with opposite leg
